Presence, Not Performance

What if your real gift isn't the polished brand, but the willingness to show up and be YOU.

Here’s something I believe down to my bones: for most of us—the high achievers, the heart-centered, the women holding five roles at once—our real gift was never our performance. It’s our presence.

But somewhere along the way we learned the opposite. That to lead, to be taken seriously, to get paid for our work, we have to have it together. Be poised. Be palatable. Say it the right way so nobody’s uncomfortable and everybody says yes.

That’s performance. And it’s exhausting. It’s the thing that burns us out and quietly convinces us we’re only valuable when we’re polished.

This week’s episode is me making the case for the opposite—and honestly, demonstrating it. I recorded it on a morning that fell apart before it started: a missed alarm, fifteen minutes to get my son to his autism center, an inbox already pulling at me. I was frustrated and I didn’t hide it.

And it was my son James—who is level three autistic, who doesn’t perform anything, who is only ever present—who reflected it right back to me. One word, in the drop-off line: mad. He named what I was feeling before I’d admitted it to myself.

That’s the teaching. Presence doesn’t always wait until you’re calm and composed. It doesn’t require you to be soft and sweet, and it doesn’t require you to armor up and match the system either. It just asks you to be honest about where you are.

The people I work with all have one thing in common: they operate from love. So their presence is always grounded in love—even when it’s raw, even when it’s not perfect, even when they don’t have it all figured out. They trust that the love is present in everything they do. And that’s where the performance drops and the presence gets to lead.

That’s the leadership we need right now. Presence without performance, rooted in love, always.

🎧 If that lands in your core, come listen. This podcast is raw, unfiltered, and real.

Our power is our presence. And it’s time for us to lead.
