Responsible to Response-Able
The subtle skill that turns proving into capacity
It happens without most people even noticing it. It feels like you’re helping.
But for many women, this small habit is keeping you locked in a cycle of proving, holding, and overloading your own shoulders.
Where My Clients Get Trapped
I had a client once—let’s call her Cinderella.
Cinderella had a big heart and showed up for everyone around her. Her family needed her? She was there. Someone needed coverage at work? Done. A family member needed a ride to a doctor’s appointment? She was already getting her keys. Someone had a problem? She was first with a solution.
She’d been praised her whole life for being “responsible.” She’d built a successful career on being the one people could count on. She had genuine drive, real expertise, and the skills to back it up.
But inside? Exhausted.
Her plate was so full of other people’s stuff that her own goals and dreams got pushed to the crumbs. She told me that no matter what she did—no matter how much she proved herself—she felt like she was letting people down. Especially herself.
How many of you know exactly what this feels like?
The System We’re In
We’re in a moment where women are being called to lead—in our businesses, our homes, our careers, our communities. Our capacity to hold complexity, to see the whole picture, to care deeply? That’s real power.
But we’ve been taught that demonstrating value means doing more. Carrying more. Proving more.
And it’s a trap.
Here’s what I’ve learned the hard way, over and over: jumping in to solve someone’s problem doesn’t actually help them. It’s a band-aid that makes them dependent on you instead of capable of themselves.
The Real Shift
The move from being responsible to being response-able isn’t semantic wordplay. It’s the difference between being the doer and being the leader. Between fixing and facilitating.
And it starts with something most women never think about: how you’re communicating in everyday conversations.
The way you talk to people creates energy leaks in every area of your life. I joke that “I teach people how to talk to people”—and while it sounds simple, it’s actually radical. If you’re a woman who wants greater impact with more ease and more space for yourself, the conversation is where everything changes.
What’s Actually Happening in Your Conversations
Most high performers bring three unconscious assumptions into every conversation they have—at work, at home, with their kids, with their partners. They show up in ordinary moments and they quietly shift all the weight onto you.
The thing is: you can’t change what you can’t see.
Once you spot what’s actually happening—what these assumptions cost you and the person you’re talking to, what they sound like when they show up—the shift becomes available. And there are three specific questions that can change the whole dynamic.
This isn’t about being louder or more assertive or following a script. It’s conversational command—something I’ve been teaching for over a decade inside my training program.
And it’s how you start to move from responsible to response-able.

I created a free resource that walks you through all of it: what these unconscious assumptions are, what they actually cost, and the three questions that shift everything.

In case we haven’t met…
👋 Hi, I’m Laura Wieck.
I often joke that I teach people how to talk to people.
It sounds simple, but for high-achieving women moving from doer to leader, communication is one of the most overlooked, undervalued, and powerful tools you have.
Everything comes back to conversation. Your marketing is a conversation. How you lead your team is a conversation. Sales is a conversation. Even your beliefs and inner dialogue are conversations.
And this is where a lot of women get stuck.
We’ve been taught to be nice, helpful, accommodating, and easy to work with. Then we’re shown a version of leadership that asks us to be more forceful, firm, and directive.
Too many women resist the call to leadership because, deep down, those outdated rules don’t align with who they are, how they want to lead and the impact they want to make.
That’s why I teach a different way.
I help high-achieving women Lead with Presence through my Conscious Communication Framework—so you can turn everyday conversations into moments that move people.
And that starts here:
